I AM NOT PATRIOTIC

Desert Spirit

Today at the local post office I requested stamps.

     The clerk asked, “What kind?

     I replied, “Anything…”

     He asked, “Flags?

I replied, “I am not that patriotic.”

Surprised, he stated, “You are talking to the wrong person. I am ex-military.”

I then suggested I would take the Charlie Brown Christmas stamps.

patriotic – to be a patriot

patriot – (Gr, patris, fatherland) – one who loves and zealously supports his own country

zealous – showing zeal; fervent; a zealot

zeal – intense enthusiasm, ardor, fervor

zealot – one who is zealous, especially to a fanatic degree

fervent – (L, fervere, to glow) – showing great warmth of feeling, intensely devoted or earnest

fanatic – (L, fanum, temple) – unreasonable enthusiasm, overly zealous, as in “a fanatic person”

So a patriot is a fanatic who is overly and unreasonably enthusiastic about what he defends? What does he defend?

     He defends a flag.

     What is a flag?

     It is an ideology.

So those who are fanatical, a zealot and who are overly and unreasonably enthusiastic about an ideology defend what they believe?

     Yes.

How does one become fanatical, a zealot and overly and unreasonably enthusiastic about an ideology who defend what they believe?

They are taught this and influenced BY this teaching.

Who teaches them this and who influences them?

     Those who share this ideology.

What are the consequences OF this ideology about which they become fanatical, a zealot and overly and unreasonably enthusiastic about this ideology and defend what they believe?

They impose the ideology on others, and frown on them who do NOT support it.

What happens when they impose their ideology on others who do not support it?

    They go to war.

     What is war?

War is imposition. It is conflict. It is ideology.

     What is conflict?

It is that which keeps one a prisoner TO the conflict he supports.

Who are the prisoners who support conflict?

     Those who are not free.

But they claim that defending their ideology KEEPS them free. How are they free of the ideology?

To promote an ideology on others in the name of freedom makes this freedom an ideology. Yet those who do not support their ideology are FREE FROM it.

Then those who are not free, in their heart or in their mind, have been influenced and taught to be this way, defending without ever questioning their ideology, and must logically be patriots who are the promoter and sponsor of conflict?

Yes. They are “flag defenders” who kill FOR and in the name OF this symbol.

How are they who call themselves “Americans”, who defend THEIR flag, any different from those who call themselves “ISIS” who defend THEIR flag?

There is no difference. Each group claims their respective ideology is the “right” one.

     So zealots are ideologists?

Yes, and they usually are “ex-military” and are prisoners TO their ideology.

     They defend zealously their beliefs.

They know not what they do.

They will even claim their ideology is supported by the particular God of their understanding.

Then he is right. I AM talking to the wrong person.

     Indeed.
