Desert Spirit

Today my lesson speaks of things about which I have lost a sensitivity. It is the free gifts of the Uni-Verse that surround me in the present. And my attention to and gratefulness for them.

     The lesson reads,

"There is a light in you which cannot die; whose presence is so holy that the world is sanctified (made sacred) because of you. All things that live bring gifts to you, and offer them in gratitude and gladness at your feet. The scent of the flowers is their gift to you. The waves bow down before you, and the trees extend their arms to shield you from the heat, and lay their leaves before you on the ground that you may walk in softness, while the wind sinks to a whisper round your holy head."

So these are the free, eternal, boundless, limitless gifts that are offered to me by all living things, and that to which I have given little attention in my pretense to survive among those who litter this planet with grief and filth.

I think of the flowers, that you brought in, how the smell is a natural and effortless action for the living plant. And when my mind is reminded of the waves that bow down before me, I think of how mankind, of which I am a part, has polluted the oceans. The fishermen are screaming that they cannot fish, and blame the oil companies for the oil spill, while their large boats USE the oil and fuel to fish the oceans nearly dry.

I think of the trees, and mankind's desire to destroy the forests so that another house can be built. And the world is begging the economy to get better so we can continue on destroying trees, to build more houses, and this seems to have no end to it.

And I think of the wind, and the recent destruction of the homes and businesses and human lives in Ohio and elsewhere, where tornadoes have touched down and ripped through man's shallow and pretend world.

And I think of the many journeys we have made, and in them the desert has become sacred, the rocks, the open spaces, and I think of others such as JC and how he has left the seclusion of the desert to return to the 'civilized' world of family and special relationships that tend to take on the guise of 'companionship' and all that human contact offers he feels he has missed.

So in spite of the sacredness of the many gifts the Uni-Verse offers me today, as the rain comes to cleanse me, to nourish all living things, I cannot help but see these thoughts called up into my awareness also. The gratefulness of the Uni-Verse amplifies in me all that is perceived by me to be not right. Yet I maintain it must be part of an Order that I may not understand, for mankind, just like the appointed path of each person, will meet the many tests it must in order to bring correction and harmony and order back to the unhealed minds that dwell together here.

But I am grateful for the service Spirit gives me to provide, and for the adventures in spite of my opinions about them. Now I attempt to not give value to the unseen or undetermined future, but pay attention to only TODAY and in TODAY make my attempt to remain in the present, giving less value to what has been or will, could or should be in an undefined future.

I will make this day the day I receive the gifts of the Kingdom, and in this lay before me this Realization so that It becomes the Carpet upon which my feet are placed to walk TODAY, leading me to gladness, to gratefulness, and to successful outcome and joy. For if the day can be saturated with only this, then so must every day that I am given on this plane become this. And the unspoken journeys that have yet to arise before me will be Given in a time and place of His Choosing.

     So be it now.

"It is done in this way."
